Mystery Magicians History

Mystery Magicians is a Los Angeles based audio equipment company founded in 2016 by musician and engineer Arash Mafi. The company was created to design innovative high end studio gear for professional musicians and recording studios.

In its early years, Mystery Magicians developed a wide range of prototypes, including valve microphone preamps, compressor and limiters, valve spring and plate reverbs, program equalizers, and valve power amplifiers. Strong feedback from custom one off builds quickly clarified the direction of the company, leading to a focus on refining designs for scalable production.

In 2020, fellow musician Avery Van Der Steur joined the company, relocating from the Bay Area to Los Angeles after being inspired by the early prototypes and long term vision. Over the following year, the team refined and finalized the MKI version of the M808A, establishing it as Mystery Magicians’ flagship preamplifier.

Our mission is to create professional, innovative, industry standard recording equipment for engineers and musicians around the world. Each product is developed with obsessive attention to detail, from custom panel meters to hand wound audio transformers. We take pride in building equipment that is musical, reliable, and built to last.

The Future

Since the release of the M808A, Mystery Magicians has launched several additional products and is preparing to introduce multiple new offerings based on previously completed prototypes. This marks the beginning of the company’s next chapter.
